personal statement

A once inhabitant of the new world, Zachary Johnson was washed ashore on the remote islands of Orkney in the summer of 2021. Born in British Columbia, Canada, Zachary has been an avid graphic designer from the early age of thirteen. Zachary has worked with notable musicians, artists, and businesses during his design tenure, and has recently launched his own creative design studio in the United Kingdom. Zachary is looking to sharpen his skills and is eager to adapt and change to the ever-evolving digital landscape.

Riverdale Fitness is a boutique community gym that resided in the heart of the east side of Toronto, Riverdale. The gym found its start in 1949, originally known as “Alfie’s Gym”, later changing the name a few decades later. Riverdale Fitness enriched the lives of the community, young and old, and maintained a very retro feel and nature of doing business, including the service, equipment, and the sub-culture that developed there. Unfortunately, the fitness club had to close due to unforeseen circumstances in the Winter of 2019.

STILL ALIVE

The photography by Jen Squires sort of carved the path for the overall aesthetic and design of the cover art and packaging. After much discussion on which photo to use, there wasn’t much else to do except to come up with a typography that invokes the bubblegum 80’s hot colours, so a simple handwritten scrawl did the trick.
